Google Doodle Honors Math Brainiac Euler
Centuries after math pioneer Leonhard Euler died, the 18th century math genius is finally getting his “slow clap” of recognition, thanks to today’s Google Doodle, which commemorates Euler’s 306th birthday in memorable fashion.
The parchment-like image features a number of Euler’s most famous equations, including his polyhedral formula and a graphic depiction of a polyhedron inside the Google “G.”
Euler’s influence extends across some of mathematics’ most important theorems, including the fact that every rotation has an axis and “Euler’s Formula,” which uses trigonometric functions to imaginary numbers’ exponentials.
